Without going too far into my own life story, I want you to know why I want you to travel. So here are the ten reasons why you should be traveling alone.Go alone if you have to. Not because it will give you a better profile picture.
Not because you think it will give you interesting stories to tell over dinner, but because we all need to see the world that we live in & become better people from it.
Top 10 reason to be traveling alone.
1. You learn how to be alone.
Traveling alone may seem daunting at first. But if there is one thing I can say for sure, it is that traveling has made me okay with being by myself. There is freedom in being alone. I have had countless meals and movie dates alone, and I admit at first it can be strangely terrifying. But once you learn to enjoy your own company and realize that everyone isn’t looking at you and wondering why you are alone, you can relax and do what you want to do without worrying about anyone else.
2. You learn to trust people.
You learn to trust people because you have to. Sometimes you may find yourself in a completely foreign country, not knowing the language and you will have to trust the help of a complete stranger. Yes, there are some people in this world who are just plain awful, but you cannot go around living your life in fear that every person who looks at you funny is going to mug you. It’s just simply not true.
3. You learn that you are very, very small.
I don’t care who you are, at the end of the day we are all just tiny people on one giant planet. We are small and beautifully insignificant. Don’t be afraid of that, don’t let it hurt your ego. Maybe you realize your country isn’t “the best in the world” and that once you leave your hometown, no one cares how popular you were in high school. It doesn’t matter, we all come into this world and leave the exact same way. There is so much beauty in that.

4. You don’t need a lot.
I have done backpacking trips before where I cram all that I can into space bags and then try and waddle around with that huge bag on my 5 foot 0-inch frame. It’s not necessary. You realize that you don’t need a lot, and you cherish the few things that you really do use.
5. You learn to embrace the area outside of your comfort zone.
One of the best things traveling alone has taught me is to embrace my true self. This is probably one of the greatest lessons that traveling has taught me. As humans, we are great adapters. By throwing yourself into situations that are outside of your comfort zone, you learn to love the unknown. In fact, you seek it out. Walking into a party where you don’t know anyone no longer phases you, because you have had to make new friends more times than you can even count.
6. You have to be flexible.
You will get lost.Likely to miss your bus.You will have a flight delayed, and have to run across an airport to try and catch the next one. But you have to be okay with that. You learn that it is far more enjoyable to just laugh at the situation and move on, rather than have it ruin your entire day. There is so much to be happy about, and so many plans that fall through – you need to learn to just smile and keep going 🙂

7. You gain perspective.
By traveling, you learn that not everyone has to share the same views as you do. That’s ok. No one has to agree with you, and once you learn to accept that you can embrace people despite their differences. Everyone gets one shot at life, let them do what they want with it and love them just the same.
8. It’s awesome.
I am rambling on and getting pretty serious about how traveling can make you a better person, which it does. But let’s not forget that it is also just really incredible. I have had the craziest experiences traveling, and I wouldn’t trade them for anything. So drink up and party until 6am, or go with the random Costa Rican man who says he will take you and your friends diving in “secret caves”, because… why not?

9. You meet people you otherwise would have never known.
This is a big one. I have so many incredible people in my life, some of whom I am sure are reading this right now. I would have never met them if I didn’t just pack up and go. If you don’t throw yourself out into the world, you will never know who is in it.
10. You can.
It’s not this “unattainable dream”. Traveling alone should not be scary. You can go out and see the world that you live in, you can experience the things that you want to. So just go already!
